Description:

Vantage Partners, LLC at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a Chemical Rocket Propulsion engineer with experience in the analysis and modeling of cryogenic and storable chemical propulsion systems and components; and experience in formulating, conducting, and analyzing testing of systems and components.

 

Job responsibilities include:

  • Perform theoretical analyses, define experimental requirements, provide conceptual designs and analyses of experimental hardware, test support, data reduction and analysis, and support to define and advance technologies advocated by NASA’s Chemical and Thermal Propulsion Systems Branch.
  • Provide technical leadership in propulsion, creativity, and scientific and engineering judgment to prove or disprove the feasibility of ideas and devices concerning liquid propulsion system component selection and total system performance.
  • Provide recommendations on the design of cryogenic or storable liquid propulsion systems characterized by constantly changing physical environments that affect planning and design criteria with respect to performance, risk mitigation, and cost.
  • Collaboration with other NASA centers, contractors, and/or international partners.
  • Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely.

 

Required Skills:    

  • Working knowledge of propulsion and propellant systems and components, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: the design and operation of integrated propulsion systems; design and operation of component technologies for cryogenic or storable propellant chemical propulsion systems (including injectors, igniters, valves, nozzles, regeneratively cooled chambers, etc.); design, modeling, and analysis of engine cycle design, cryogenic turbo-pump assemblies, regeneratively-cooled nozzles, propellant distribution and control subsystems; and/or overall engine subsystem integration.
  • U.S. citizenship is required

 

Other Desired Skills:

  • Experience with formulating, performing, and analyzing experimental testing of chemical rocket propulsion systems.
  • A background in CFD applied to the design and analysis of chemical rocket propulsion systems. 
  • Experience with chemical rocket propulsion software tools that may include CEA, ROCCID, GSSFP, EASY5, ANSYS, etc.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum - B.S. degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Desired - M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent years of relevant, practical experience.

Relocation to the Cleveland, Ohio, U.S. area is required (relocation assistance available).
