Aerospace/Controls Engineer

Aerospace control engineering using optimized strategies to achieve maximum performance. This position will use modeling and the understanding of hardware interactions to help with maturing complex hybrid-electric propulsion control architectures. Work will focus on design and development of hybrid electric aircraft engine simulations, both nominal and off-nominal conditions, with emphasis on controller design. The work will also include dynamic systems analysis to identify issues associated with proposed advanced propulsion systems. 


Primary duties include: Defining modeling and control system requirements, selection of appropriate modeling strategy and fidelity, and design, development, and implementation of control laws for targeted aerospace propulsion systems and subsystems. Duties may also include support for planning activities, models development to support other control design efforts, software maintenance, documentation, and implementation/validation testing of control algorithms in simulations.




  • Practical understanding of classical, modern, and intelligent control-based approaches related to aircraft propulsion systems
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Understanding of electrical system modeling and control concepts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Team oriented - excellent interpersonal skills
  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status required


Other Desired Skills:


  • Experience/background in hybrid electric control system design for gas turbine engines
  • Familiar with gas turbine and electric propulsions system for aircraft and air vehicles 
  • Knowledge of electric motor control, generator control, power electronics (inverters and rectifiers), and batteries
  • Experience in development, implementation, testing, and validation of control algorithms
  • Experience with gas turbine engine control systems




  • BS/MS in Aerospace, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering 

  • Master’s degree:  0 to 3 years of experience

  • Bachelor’s degree:  2 to 5 years of experience
