Compressor Analysis Engineer

Vantage Partners, LLC at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a mechanical/aerospace engineer with experience in the analysis and design of aeropropulsion compressors to support the development of analysis tools needed to simulate the onset of icing in the fan and low and high pressure compression systems.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Creating a computer flow model of an inlet, fan, and compressor of a turbofan engine.
  • Enhancing NASA’s existing one-dimensional aerothermodynamic flow analysis code (COMDES/MELT) used to simulate the sublimation, melting, and evaporation of ice particles as they pass through the compression flow path.
  • Enhancing the existing capability of the one-dimensional analysis of turbofan engines to determine the risk of ice accretion on components in the low-pressure compressor and core components.
  • Improving understanding of the multidisciplinary physics involved in the process of ice accretion inside aero engine inlets, fans, ducts, and compressors.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the aerodynamic analysis and design of aeropropulsion engine compression systems.
  • A strong background in the mathematical analysis and in the development of modeling software for compressors.
  • Experience in the development and use of mean-line and two-dimensional streamline curvature aerodynamic flow codes used for the analysis and design of turbomachinery compressors.
  • Expertise in axial compressors.
  • Expert knowledge of fluid dynamics, spreadsheet analysis for engine data and code coupling, and Fortran code development.
  • Experience in compressible flow aerodynamics.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated through authorship and presentation of technical material on the subject of aero propulsion compressor systems.
  • Relocation to the Cleveland, Ohio area is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Other Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with compressor design tools and methods.
  • Experience with modeling the multiphase sublimation, melting, and evaporation of ice particles.
  • Knowledge of centrifugal compressor analysis and design methods a plus.
Education

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience, including direct industrial or graduate school
