Description:

Vantage Partners, LLC is seeking a new addition to our Electrical Engineering Department.  Members of this department work collaboratively and lead teams in the delivery of aeronautic and space systems that contribute to missions at NASA Glenn Research Center.  NASA is planning a series of lander demonstrations as part of the Advanced Cislunar and Surface Capabilities (ACSC) project within the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD).  Glenn Research Center has the overall responsibility for the electrical power system (EPS) for these lander designs.  Currently in progress is the design for the Lunar Pallet Lander, which will deliver ~300 kg of payload to the lunar South Polar Region.  In addition, other lander concept studies with increasing payload capability and culminating with a design for a human mission class lander are also being considered.  Vantage Partners is looking for an experience electrical engineer to help support the conceptual designs of various power systems that will be used on these landers.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Electrical Power Systems - Includes solar photovoltaic arrays and nuclear systems (isotope and fission reactor) with thermal to electrical energy conversion. (i.e. thermoelectric, Stirling, Brayton, etc.).
  • Energy Storage Systems - Includes batteries and regenerative fuel cells including all associated components.
  • Power Management, Distribution, and Control/Regulation Systems - Includes DC to DC converters, battery charge controllers, peak power tracking.
  • Power System Architecture - Optimization of the power system, selecting the approach and components to meet the power system requirements, trade studies for optimizing the power system for operation at specific locations on the lunar surface, and environmental constraints such as operating through and/or surviving the lunar night period will be a critical aspect to the power system design and selection.
  • Power System Integration - Layout and integration of the power system into the lander, specifying component sizes and locations.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status required

 

Other Desired Skills:

 

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a development team.
  • Understanding of power electronic components including DC/DC converters, battery charge/discharge control, solar array power generation and regulation, and DC bus power quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of fault management systems.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • BS Electrical Engineering with 5 - 10 years of experience
