Facilities Electrical-Mechanical Designer/Drafter

Description:

The selected candidate will work with our facility engineering and design group to develop electrical/mechanical engineering drawings for building and facility institutional systems. Drawings types include civil, architectural, plumbing, building mechanical, electrical, HVAC, piping, energy management, communications and fire protection. 

Effort provided shall consist of developing and making updates to multiple drawings types including detail fabrication drawings, schematics, isometric and assembly drawings for both mechanical and electrical systems, piping systems, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s) and architectural drawings. In addition, updates to existing drawings to reflect as-built condition will be required. Site visits to the NASA Glenn Research Center facilities to obtain system information and configuration details shall be required. 

 

Specific work elements include:

1)     Plans, conducts, and technically supports projects or major phases of significant projects.

2)     Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to performing assigned projects.

3)     Recommends corrections in technical applications.

4)     Provides project status to client and company management through written status reports and verbal presentations.

5)     Monitors deliverables and ensures adequate quality review prior to presentation to the client.

6)     Participates in technical meetings to isolate performance issues, develop procedures for corrective action, and make recommendations for modifications.

7)     Documents procedures for all technical aspects of assigned work.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing engineering drawings that document an “as-built” condition or design intent is critical
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD software is required (current version is R2016)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel)
  • Knowledge of the Synergis ADEPT data management system 
  • Ability to interface with engineering to obtain design requirements and perform site visits documenting “as-built” hardware configurations
  • A highly motivated, self-starter with strong communication skills
  • Candidate needs to pay attention to details and have a willingness to learn and develop
  • U.S. citizenship is required

 

Education/Experience:

  • Pursuing an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree 
  • Minimum of 1 to 5 years of experience
