Materials Science Engineer – Entry Level


Vantage Partners, LLC is a multi-disciplinary engineering services company providing progressive solutions to projects within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the NASA prime contractor community. 


The selected candidate will support projects at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.  Responsibilities will include the following:


Metallographic Laboratory:

  • Mount, polish, and etch specimens for microstructural examination.
  • Document results using optical microscopy techniques and interpret results.
  • Provide precision polishing of flat samples to surface finishes of less than one micron.
  • Assist in performing micro-hardness testing.
  • Perform sample preparation, conduct analysis, and report results.
  • Assist in performing image analysis of optical micrographs for microstructural evaluation. 


Electron Microscopy Laboratory:

  • Prepare and analyze samples using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD).
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with ISO standards.
  • Perform sample preparation, conduct analysis, and report results.
  • Assist in performing image analysis of SEM micrographs for microstructural evaluation.




  • Hands-on experience working in Metallography Laboratory. Performing sample preparation and operating optical microscopes.
  • Hands-on experience working in Electron Microscopy Laboratory operating an SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy).
  • Hands-on experience performing micro-hardness testing.
  • Hands-on experience with Image Analysis of SEM and optical micrographs. 
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • U.S. citizenship is required.


Other Desired Skills:

  • Must be a good communicator and be able to give and receive instructions effectively.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
