Piping/Fluid Systems Engineer

Description:

Vantage Partners, LLC is seeking an addition to its aerospace engineering department in the area of fluid systems engineering that will include piping, pressure vessel, and pressure system engineering.  VPL provides supportive services to a wide range of projects at NASA Glenn Research Center and seeks a candidate with the ability to rapidly learn and immediately contribute.  Must have knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to mechanical engineering and fluid systems; knowledge of aerospace systems is a plus.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to conduct and manage all phases of pressure system design including engineering analyses and safety and life assessments, to generate and review pressure system documentation, and to perform trade studies, project scheduling and costing, hardware selection and procurement, and coordination of fabrication and assembly of designed hardware
  • Able to analyze systems and components with regards to pressure, flow, thermal, structural, reliability, and safety considerations
  • Able to perform sizing calculations for relief valves, flow venturi and orifices, pneumatic and hydraulic control valves, expansion joints, and piping welds
  • Able to understand and create flow, pressure boundary, and instrumentation diagrams
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII
  • Familiarity with fluid type hazards and with NFPA and API codes
  • Able to assess the risks associated with the operation of each pressure system and the ability to participate in the GRC Safety Office meetings as an expert in pressure systems design and safety 
  • Knowledge of the variations in metal properties over temperatures ranging from cryogenic to 1800°F+
  • Able to plan and oversee tests including hydrostatic, pneumatic, helium leak, vibration, functional, and reliability
  • Able to recommend and evaluate non-destructive inspections including visual, ultrasonic, radiographic, and penetrant testing
  • Able to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Able to effectively write and communicate highly technical subject matter
  • U.S. citizenship 

 

Other Desired Skills:

  • Piping flexibility analysis using CAESAR II, CodeCalc, or similar software
  • Experience with analysis tools such as FlowTherm, Ansys Fluent, Sinda/Fluint, and other CFD tools
  • Design and analysis skills to address mechanical, structural, and thermal challenges associated with aerospace systems and their materials of construction
  • Familiarity with ducted and natural air flow and with ASHRAE standards and guidelines
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for creating piping drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with Creo (Pro/Engineer)
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks

 

Education/Experience:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience
