Systems Engineer

Description

VPL is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the formulation team for a next-generation, space-based communications project, sponsored by the NASA Space Communications and Navigation Program. Successful candidate must have knowledge of standard concepts and practices related to stakeholder documentation, requirements development, integration of trade study results, and large-scale systems architecting. Knowledge of communications systems is a plus. Practical experience working in the early phases of large-scale complex space systems is essential.

 
Required Skills:  

• Systems Engineering experience planning and delivering complex space systems.
• Ability to discern stakeholder concerns and wants from a variety of sources and articulate coherent, self-consistent needs, goals, and objectives.
• Project experience transforming stakeholder expectations into unique, quantitative, and measurable technical requirements for complex space systems.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to manage inputs from a variety of stakeholders in execution of project responsibilities; ability to work with technical discipline specialists and convey information to non-specialist engineers and management
• Experience developing projects in accordance with NASA NPRs 7120.5 and 7123.1 or similar standards.
• Experience using SysML to develop systems engineering artifacts and communicate key project information.

 
Other Desired Skills :

• Familiarity with RF communications systems and optical communications systems
• Designing and evaluating technical trade studies
• Experience with SysML tools such as: MagicDraw, Sparx EA, Rational Rhapsody Designer
